Captain's log: preparing to leave this "star" system

 After a 10 day detour, "Silk Pajamas" will return back to her original path today. All systems are functioning and ready for service. For Sammy...Amma is farting again! Farting, really is fun. 

Sights are set on "Funny Bunny" (Lizzie) rendezvous around noon.  This long-awaited reunion will be the first stop on the "return to civilization" trek. 

Rested and healing from this unexpected detour, Silk Pajamas is gloriously ready to take on the adventure awaiting her next week.  

Preparing to close this log with fond memories. 

I am so appreciative of all of your texts, notes, gifts, hugs, time, phone calls, and thoughts. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful safety net to fall into. You have all helped me bounce right back and never, for one second, did I feel alone or afraid. 

My nurses and physicians have checked in often, given up their weekend time to make sure I had what I needed, explained and guided me with experience and firmness. 

I have had many hours of 1:1 time with my family and friends, in a way that rarely happens in my regular world. I know the memories of vomit, retching and poo, to be replaced by the healing that comes from acts of kindness, hours of healing presence, and the help I received doing every day tasks, that became so hard for me. Those memories will stick forever.  

I have a lovely little succulent as my travel partner, and my new comfort accessory to my silks, are my fuzzy warm sox, but I do not know who sent them to me. Please don't be a stranger, I love the thoughtful gift of smells and comfort, sent by someone who knows what it like going through this process. 

That sweet little succulent represents my sturdiness, resilience, and ability to plump back up, even after a very, long drought. Thank you friend for sending that to me. 

I will sign off for now, I am awaiting a watered-down, cream-less, cup of coffee with the level of anticipation and joy that only a true coffee lover can bring.  Just the smell will be a delight.

Day of frustration

 My cold is getting worse, now I have chest/rib pain when coughing and my expectorant is turned from clear to yellow to greenish.  For several hours today, I was unable to stop the coughing and catch my breath.  I was really glad I didn't have a 12-inch surgical incision down my belly to contend with. Delaying was the right decision.  I know many of you are great planners and organizers like I am. Pretty great news!

 If you remember, back to the beginning of this Blog, it began because I sent out 15-20 texts saying "My endometrial biopsies are negative!" And by the time most of you had received my text, I had received a call from the surgeon to tell me that my other masses needed to be removed and biopsied and that there were still lots of question marks. I was too disappointed to send out another group of texts, so I started my blog, which has allowed me to tell my story once.  So, today, I met with the oncologist and more questions have been answered. Of all of the "stuff" that was removed from my belly. The right and left ovaries, uterus, lymph nodes, gooey fat thing that I forget it's proper name, suspicious mass on my jejunum... all of these are fully negative for cancer. Back to Yoga

 April 22, 2023 It has been three and 1/2 months since the "Event". My scar is healing, my surgeon has given me permission to start going back to my "normal life".  Is life every actually "normal" after a crisis?  I am not sure that any of us ever return to our prior selves after we have looked at death, but hopefully, we move forward, a little bit wiser and with more compassion.  Yesterday, I went back to my yoga studio and did two sessions. It felt fabulous!  As I told my yoga teacher about my cancer scare, she shared that her mother had a similar experience and she had the same exploratory surgery. In her mother's case, the surgeons found cancer throughout her pelvis and she did not survive. Listening to her story, reminded me of how lucky I am.
